Welcome To Karnataka State Open University
Alagappa university was established in the year 1985 by the government under the act of the state legislature. It is located in the huge area of around 420 acres in the town of Karaikudi in the district Sivagangai in Tamil Nadu. It is suitable for higher education. The campus is available from Madurai in about 2 hours and Tiruchirapalli /Trichy in about and half an hour by road transport.
The university has founded by the modern and generous personality. Padma Bhushan Dr.RM.Alagappa Chettiar in Karaikudi. As a member of Common Wealth Universities and Association of Indian Universities, it has important relations with national and international research, academic and industrial institutions. This important relation promises a bright future to the learners.
It has been recognized under Sec.2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC act. The university has been awarded with A+ grade by NAAC (CGPA : 3.64 out of 4) in the third cycle of assessment and also the first state university that obtained the A+ status in the state of Tamil Nadu. Alagappa university has got 27th position in the category of university under NIRF 2018 ranking done by MHRD.
The university had unique fortune of having a succession of eminent vice-chancellor to guide its destiny. Under the leadership of a successive vice-chancellor the university is witnessing a spectacular growth in teaching, research and extension activities.
